"In the year 20XX, the super-robot MegaMan was created. Dr. Light created MegaMan to stop the evil desires of Dr. Wily. However, after his defeat, Wily created eight of his own robots to counter MegaMan..." |
MegaMan 2 was the first MegaMan game I ever played, way back on the good 'ol trusty NES. In my opinion it still ranks as the best 8-bit Megaman game. Maybe it's the regular enemies that populate each stage... the robot animals especially. They just seem to have more personality than, say, the enemies in MegaMan 6. Well, that and the music from the Dr. Wily stage!
This game set several precedents for the rest of the Mega Man series. Now there were 8 Robot Masters instead of 6, and their faces were displayed on the Stage Select screen. There were lots of extra bells and wistles added, like the story before the title screen, the exterior shot of Skull Castle, and of course, the "YOU GOT" (name of weapon) screens.
