This is where it all began.
The Megaman craze started with a simple, 8-bit NES game. And at the time it came out, 8-bit was pretty much as high-tech as videogames got. The NES reigned supreme in America, and many new games were released with no thoughts of, "Okay, will the 12-19 Male demographic buy this game?" on the part of Nintendo. It was a simpler time.
Megaman offered something unique in video games at this time: A stage select. You could play the stages in any order you wanted to, and when you beat a boss, you gained his weapon. If you happened to choose them the right order, it made beating the boss of each stage easier. Also, the game had tons of personality that games like Mario lacked. Each stage's boss looked completely unique, and every stage had different backgrounds and music. Megaman even changed colors to match whatever weapon he was equipped with. These elements added up to create a very playable and unique game.
At the time, nobody really expected a sequel. They certianly didn't expect 35 different Rockman games to surface on every concievible counsole. No, there was just this one game. And for it's time, it was something special.
And it's still fun to play.
